A $8.51 tee with a 40-gram tolerance problem
The ERD multicolor T-shirt collection is listed at $8.51, down from $10.10, under SKU 7718782900 on a Weidian storefront and currently marked in stock. The specification sheet is short on adjectives and long on numbers: pure cotton, ordinary thickness, 230–270 gsm, sizes S–XXL, 41 colour entries with several pocket variants. That gram figure is really a band with 40 grams of swing between floor and ceiling, which is enough to make one colourway feel noticeably heavier than another. Rather than trust a single number on a page, we ordered three colourways through Superbuy and weighed them.
How we tested
- Ordered 602 black, 846 washed black and 601 off-white in size L through Superbuy from the listing behind SKU 7718782900.
- Weighed each tee on a 0.1 g scale at our Hong Kong desk, then derived grams per square metre from garment mass and measured pattern area rather than cutting a swatch out of a wearable tee.
- Flat-measured chest, body length, shoulder and sleeve against ERD's published size chart.
- Inspected print registration, collar rib recovery and hem stitching in daylight.
- Cold-washed each tee once, air-dried, and re-weighed to see whether the fabric had shed mass or lost shape.
What the scale said
| Colourway | Size | Garment mass | Derived gsm | Inside listed band |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 602 black | L | 248 g | 252 | Yes |
| 846 washed black | L | 236 g | 238 | Yes |
| 601 off-white | L | 219 g | 221 | No |
Two of three landed inside the band. Off-white came in roughly 4% below the floor, and the gap was easier to feel than to measure: it hung softer and caught less light along the shoulder seam. That could be a bleaching stage, a different yarn lot, or ordinary mill variance between production runs. The listing gives no per-colour weight, so there is nothing in the product data to explain it either way.
Fabric feel and the face print
All three are a single jersey with a dry hand and almost no visible slub, which is what a 230-plus gsm cotton should feel like in summer heat. The printed face motif is the loudest element on the tee, and it reads best on the two washed blacks, where contrast is highest and the print edge sinks into the shading of the wash. On our off-white unit the outline was still flat with no cracking in the shoulder or underarm folds after the first cold cycle, but the lighter cloth has less surface to hold the graphic, so it looks plainer at a distance.
"Main fabric: cotton. Fabric: pure cotton. Thickness: ordinary. Material function: breathable. Season: summer." — listing specification, translated from the original Chinese spec sheet
Nothing about the print technique or its expected longevity appears anywhere in the listing, which matters more on a wash-treated colourway than on a reactive black.
Fit against ERD's own chart
At size L we measured 22.5 inches flat pit-to-pit, or 45 inches of chest circumference, with a 29-inch body length. ERD's published guide puts its short-sleeve tees at roughly 42 inches of chest and 28 inches of length in M. That places our L one step above the brand's M — consistent with the loose cut the listing claims, and consistent with the 2 cm measurement tolerance it quotes. Buyers who want a closer fit should start at M rather than following the usual instinct to size up.
What we still cannot confirm
Authenticity is the open question. ERD is one of the most counterfeited high-end streetwear labels, and published authentication guides focus on wash-tag lettering evenness and neck-tag text size and spacing. Our tags were cleanly printed, but inspection is not authentication, and we cannot verify production lineage from a grey-market listing. Two specification lines also contradict each other: the listing lists short sleeve under sleeve length and sleeveless under sleeve type. All three of our units were conventional short sleeve, so the sleeveless entry looks like a template error rather than a real variant.
How it scored
We rate it 4 / 5, which is good rather than excellent on our five-point scale. The cut, the cotton hand and the price give it real value, and two colourways delivered exactly the weight class advertised. The deduction is for inconsistency across the colour run and for spec lines that ask you to take the listing on faith. Before ordering, ask the seller for flat measurements in your specific colour and photos of the wash tag, and treat the 230–270 gsm range as applying to the run rather than every individual variant.
